I'm against Zionism but shouldn't Jews live among other Jews?

My name is Roxy and I'm 17 and I have a couple of questions. This site opened my eyes a bit, I hadn't read a lot of this before. I agree with a lot of what's in this site but there are some things that I can't get past. First, I just don't see what is ultimately wrong with a land where we can be with our own bretheren? I'm yet to go to Israel but one of the main reasons I want to is because it'll be my chance to be around my own kind completely. The other thing is that, since I was very young, I have felt a desire to go to Israel. Probably since i was 8 or 9 years old. It's like a desire put inside of me, but at the same time I am pretty much anti-zionist, so this bothers me. Have you encountered other Jews who have had a desire to go to Israel like this? I'm against terrorism and needless killing, but I think we should have an area of our own.

Your desires are good, but you have to know the right way to direct them. Being together with our own brethren is something we can do just as well during exile, in any part of the world. It is definitely good for a Jew to live in a large Jewish community where there are synagogues, yeshivas, girls schools, halls of study, rabbis, lectures, kosher food. It is definitely good to associate with other Jews. And the desire to go to the Land of Israel is a longing that every Jew must feel. We pray every day, "May our eyes see Your return to Zion in mercy." At the same time, the prayer stresses that it will be "Your return" i.e. G-d will do it and not us on our own. We must long for the end of exile when we can return to the Land.
