Was the NY9 Republican Victory Really About Obama's Mideast Policy? Let's Check the Facts
The dominant media narrative explaining the NY9 special election upset is: Jewish displeasure with President Obama’s Mideast policies.

FICTION:
Orthodox Jewish voters defected from the Democratic party just now due to Obama's policies on the State of Israel.
FACT:
Already for years the polls have been telling us that Orthodox voters have been voting conservative!
Here is one example.

NY9 Jewish voters pointed to Israel as the overriding issue in the NY9 race.
FACT:
In the last Siena (an independent polling agency) poll before the elections, the State of Israel was the least important issue that voters pointed to. Only 7 percent chose Israel as the most important factor. A sixth of those identified themselves as Catholics, and a quarter voted Weprin. Of them, more identified themselves as Republicans than Democrats. So it comes down to maximum 2 percent of Jewish voters who are Democrats and voted for Turner due to the Israel issue – much smaller that the margin of victory.

Local Jewish leaders point to Israel as the overriding issue.
FACT:
Local Jewish rabbis supported Turner because his opponent invoked and dismissed his Orthodox religion when voting for the recent anti-marriage bill in the New York State Assembly. This outraged the community like never before.
Chaim Deutch and Councilman Lew Fidler are two top politicians in the Brooklyn side of the district. When pressed about the elections results by the Brooklyn Paper, none of them pointed to Israel.
All Jewish voters interviewed by the Wall Street Journal attributed Jewish support for Turner to anger over Weprin's vote to redefine marriage.
Even Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who is known as a Zionist extremist, didn’t mention Israel when contemplating the Turner endorsement:
In his official post-election statement, Hikind only mentioned Israel as an “also” issue in the 3rd paragraph, after the economy, jobs and after stating: “Bob Turner’s values were consistent with those of the district, unlike David Weprin, who stood up on the floor of the Assembly, identified himself as a practicing, Orthodox Jew, and proclaimed his unequivocal and proud support for gay marriage in New York State. Weprin’s vote crossed the line, and ultimately, it was the cause of his undoing in this election.”
While Hikind points to Israel here and there, he knows that this doesn’t play well in his district.
THE PUNDITS HAVE IT DEAD WRONG: ISRAEL WAS NOT THE ISSUE!
It is very painful for the Orthodox Jews of Brooklyn and Queens when the media doesn't take their true sentiments into account. The Zionists have invented the story of a "Jewish revenge on Obama" and use our community to further their agenda. It is unfortunate that some writers in the mainstream media have gone along with it.
