The following is the text of a radio ad by True Torah Jews, which will run on WABC New York on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, September 11, 12 and 13:
The following message is brought to you by True Torah Jews, an organization of Orthodox Jews headquartered in Brooklyn, New York.
Next Tuesday, September 13, an election will be held for the House seat representing New York's ninth district. Republican Bob Turner will run against Democrat David Weprin.
As the election nears, True Torah Jews are disturbed by the frequent references by candidates to their support for the State of Israel.
Their message is clear: "We are American Jews, and like any other voters, Jewish voters will vote for politicians who are focusing on addressing the many problems we are facing here in the United States, not a foreign agenda.”
The great Biblical prophet Jeremiah proclaimed G-d's message to all Jews: "Seek out the welfare of the city to which I have exiled you, and pray for it to G-d, for through its peace will you have peace." For millennia, this has been a cornerstone of Jewish conduct.
True Torah Jews strongly believe that dragging foreign issues into American elections fuels anti-Semitism, furthers conflicts, and creates a potential danger to Jews worldwide.
As Jews, we must be ever mindful of the needs of our Jewish brethren, wherever they may live. But the attitude of those who unceasingly pressure politicians to pursue the pro-Israel agenda, especially during election campaigns, only endangers the welfare of Jews worldwide, including in the Holy Land.
